Evanesce
Artist’s Book
‘Evanesce’ means to gradually fade out of sight, memory, or existence.

In this 24-page experimental artist’s book, I explored the intersection between emotion and technology, particularly through the lens of impermanence, forgetting, and drifting out of relevancy.

The book was bound using the Japanese Stab Binding technique, and the cover was made with etched transparent acrylic and silver adhesive vinyl. The materiality of each interior page consists of Japanese Mulberry, Epson Enhanced Matte, vellum, and clear acetate. These variations in texture and opacity are meant to interact with light to evoke shifts and layers.
The pages feature cyanotype prints made with discarded fragments of technology, layered with floral images converted into ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Exchange). This typographic image-making process emerged in the early days of computing due to the limitations of text-based displays. Scattered throughout are excerpts and song lyrics that hold personal significance to me.
